We lay down my drums pretty quick
This isn’t you getting your vocals perfect
One or two takes does the trick
Unlike you getting your vocals perfect
I go for a swim in the heat
You’ll be doing your vocals for weeks
I bike round the island for hours
While you’re giving your vocal some tweaks
The locals say a storm’s rolling in
Will the wind, Mr. Coconut, finally drop you?
Your vocals are taking for days
If the power goes out will that even stop you?
The vocals, you say, are the track
So much more so than the backing
They’ve got to look good in the microscope
There can’t be a single thing lacking
You’re changing some words in the verse
The chorus sounds way too rehearsed
Something is wrong with the energy
You’ll redo them tonight in a burst
We lay down my drums pretty quick
So I walk on the beach with my sandals in my hand
I lay the complexity thick
Then I go buy some fruit from the little fruit stand
We lay down my drums pretty fast
This isn’t you getting your vocals perfect
One or two takes in a blast
Unlike you getting your vocals perfect

Reminds me a lot of Court and Spark and Ladies of the Canyon era Joni. The synths and vocal chops of Kleinmeister, but the solitude of Rendezvous with Rama. I find it easy to describe in terms of other things but hard to describe the emotions that it makes me feel! These summer-y odes to that seem to be directed to a teenage New Englander really resonate with me, an almost not-teenage New Englander, two decades later, but I think anyone could see themselves in these songs! mickyfitz808
